Visitors to GRE Engineering's recent Open House in Steinebrunn, Switzerland, saw the European launch of the VP8020 Digital Print Engine from VIPColor. Said to handle variable content with ease, the VP8020 is suited for high mix print runs such as forms, labels, tags, direct mail pieces and ID cards. Also capable of colour coding and picture coding for easy and accurate product recognition, the system prints 600 x 1,800dpi using 256 levels of grey.

A maximum throughput of 25 impressions/min (8.5 x 11in) is claimed, and a wide range of paper and synthetic substrates can be handled, including adhesive backed labels and multi part forms.

GRE says the first VP8020 to be installed in Europe has been sold to a UK customer.

Phil Frommenwiler, of VIPColor Europe, remarks: "We see the UK, France and Germany as major areas of growth for digital printing and converting, and together with GRE, we are concentrating our efforts in these areas.

"New markets driven by on-demand digital printing include the retail sector where the GRE Digital Converter can be used to produce eye catching labels for promotional trials, shelf tags, shipping labels and in-house designs to enhance and identify packaged goods throughout the supply chain."
