Danger diminishing

8 May 2008

The UK’s Packaging and Films Association says its members have achieved “unprecedented improvements” in their safety record after a seven-year period of industry-wide initiatives. The latest PAFA safety survey reports that members operating across 23 UK sites have achieved an overall 68 per cent reduction in total accidents since 2003.

The latest figures reveal that accidents, across the reporting companies who make up a significant part of the £2B industry, plummeted last year to just 45 recorded incidents, compared with 142 accidents five years ago. In line with this dramatic improvement, the number of lost working hours in the sector fell by more than 70 per cent, from 14,607 in 2003 to 4,844 last year.
