Cut-backs at Graphic Packaging

8 May 2008

In the US, Graphic Packaging International plans to discontinue folding carton manufacturing at its operations in Middletown, Ohio, by the end of the third quarter of 2008. It also plans to cease production at its paper lamination plant in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.

Both announcements are part of the company’s overall re-alignment and consolidation of its operations following its combination with Altivity Packaging.

The Middletown facility will continue to operate while its business is moved to other company facilities in the US. Assistance will be given to the 133 employees affected by the transition. The boxboard mill also located at the Middletown site will continue to produce coated recycled paperboard for the consumer packaging industry, with no changes in the mill production or employment levels.

The Elk Grove Village plant will support customers while production is moved to other company locations in the US over the next several months. Twenty affected employees will be given assistance.

The company will continue to operate its two folding carton plants at Elk Grove Village.
