COVERIS SHORTLISTED FOR BEST FACTORY OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Leading packaging manufacturer Coveris has been shortlisted for the prestigious Factory of the Year award by Cranfield School of Management, celebrating manufacturing excellence in the UK.

The Best Factory Awards, managed by Cranfield School of Management, invite entries from UK manufacturing plants with the purpose of promoting and rewarding industrial excellence. With former winners including Siemens, 3M and Sony, Coveris looks set to join some of the world’s leading manufacturing companies having been shortlisted for a total of five awards across various categories.

Coveris’ Lealand Way label site, one of two in Boston, received the honour of being shortlisted for Factory of the Year, along with further nominations in four categories: Household and General Products Plant Award; Continuous Improvement Award; Energy and Environment Award; Supply Chain Award. The factory is a printer of self-adhesive paper and flexible labels for FMCG goods specialising in chilled foods and produce.

Professor Marek Szwejczewski, Director of the Best Factory Awards, explained: “Our awards recognise and honour those UK manufacturers who are leading the way when it comes to continuous improvement and delivering superior results for their customers. The factories on this year’s shortlist have all demonstrated a clear commitment to improving performance. The finalists were driven by a desire to improve, to excel. They stressed the value they got from benchmarking themselves and the importance of visiting exemplar plants to learn from them and to take away any good ideas - to pinch with pride.”

David Smith, Supply Chain Excellence Director (Paper) at Coveris, said: “We are honoured to have been shortlisted for the Best Factory Awards. Coveris strives for supply chain excellence and the Lealand Way site in Boston is a shining example of how we have implemented the Coveris Performance System. The Coveris Performance System encompasses our lean manufacturing strategy and is integrated in our daily working practices and processes as we aim for continuous improvement, impacting positively on our operations, business performance and employee engagement.”
The winners will be announced at the BFA 2016 Awards Ceremony taking place on 14th October at the National Motorcycle Museum and Conference Centre in Birmingham.

This announcement follows Coveris’ recent success at the European Flexographic Industry Association and FTA Europe Diamond Awards. Coveris has also once again been shortlisted for Label of the Year and Flexible Pack of the Year at the UK Packaging Awards, with the winners due to be announced on 27th October.
