Coats of many colours

27 June 2005

Engelhard has introduced four new products to its Lumina Colors family for use in luxury packaging and security inks. Lumina Colors are mica based effect pigments, available in gold, red, green, aqua-blue and red-blue. Said to create "extraordinary and intriguing" visual effects in a variety of applications, they have increased chromaticity at the reflection angle and higher colour purity and clarity than traditional interference colours.

A turquoise colour has now been introduced, along with three new "metallic-looking" pigments - Lumina Brass, Copper and Russet. They are said to be compatible with all types of coating process, can be used in inks for gravure, flexo and screen printing, and process easily in injection moulding, blow moulding and extrusion processing.

Steve Tuffley, divisional director for Cornelius, says: "The Lumina Colors really do make a difference. In solvent and waterborne coating applications, for example, the enhanced reflection creates the look of a three-coat effect in only two coats. And the dramatic visual impact of these pigments makes them particularly suitable for luxury packaging and luxury goods."
