Co-operation speeds seaming

21 October 2004

The Karlville Development Group's new 300D seamer fitted with a Martin Automatic roll changer marks a major step forward in high volume seaming technology, according to Karlville executive vp Raul Matos.

"By reducing production waste by three per cent, and increasing throughput by up to 30 per cent, the new 300D creates a higher quality product for less cost. This translates into a short payback period for the converter. The key to the new system is Martin's MBEC automatic butt splicer and STR rewind, that provide reliable, non stop production," he explains.

Martin Automatic and Karlville engineers worked together to integrate their respective technologies, creating a flexible upgrade path for the 300D series. David Wright, vp of Martin Automatic, comments: "We added a number of new features to our STR to accommodate this specialized application and provide the performance Karlville required. This configuration represents an important advancement in seaming technology."

He says eliminating the materials waste and equipment downtime associated with manual roll changes must have a positive impact on any converter's ability to be competitive and generate sustainable profit margins.
