CMM conference programme examines challenges

The CMM 2005 conference programme – 'Converting Solutions Into Profits: Confronting the Challenges in a Competitive Environment' - will present a variety of topics in two main educational tracks: Technical and Management/Marketing. Eight daily concurrent educational sessions and nearly 90 presentations will cover current issues of importance to the converting and package printing industry. These include digitalizing the package printing process, trends in packaging, impact of RFID, how to use technology to gain a competitive advantage, and managing the converting operation.

Technical Track topics include: Web Handling I: Solving Common Tension, Slip and Scratching Problems; Web Handling II: Web & Roll Quality Defects; Multiprocess Workflow and Software Integration; UV/EB Technology Update: Equipment & Beyond; Profit from Lithographic Printing of Folding Cartons & Labels;Digitalizing the Package Printing Process; Security & Logistics/Support & Opportunities; Future of Flexible Packaging; Waterless Printing Technology for Packaging; Updating Metallizing Technologies for Effective Packaging; Improving Performance for Package Printers; Defect Reduction Technology Workshop; Slitting and Rewinding Fundamentals for Converters; Using Technology to Gain a Competitive Edge; Digital Prepress Technology; Inks Make the Difference: Adding Value to the Package.

The Management/Marketing Track features: Gravure vs Flexo: A Costing Model; Impact of RFID on Security; Real Life Example of RFID: Will You Be Ready When Your Customers Are?; Navigating the Challenges of a Global Marketplace; Inkjet Imaging for Package Applications; Digital Imaging: The Revolution Approaches; Changing Times Require a Drastic Change in Training Programs; Trends in Packaging: Form, Purpose and Security; New Technologies in Flexible Packaging; New Hurdles for Flexo & Offset Printing; The Gravure Pressroom: A Troubleshooting Session; Managing the Converting Operation.

The new Consumer Packaging & Converting Connection will focus on management strategies that help end users capitalize on packaging value chain initiatives. Featuring leading industry packaging experts, it will target the relationship between senior managers at consumer packaged goods companies and their converter partner-suppliers.

The Converting Equipment Manufacturers Association will host CEMA Solutions Seminars, at the Embassy Suites Hotel on April 17-18. Two conferences - Coating & Laminating Seminar and Slitting & Rewinding Seminar – will consist of two full days of in depth sessions geared to engineers and experienced machine operators. More than two dozen technical sessions dealing with the various aspects of coating, laminating, and slitting will be presented concurrently by leading industry authorities.
