The potential of the developing Polish market was a key factor in the acquisition of Harlands Labels by the Specialist Packaging Division of Clondalkin for an undisclosed sum.
Ian Wright, managing director of Hull, UK, based Harlands, says: "There was a distinct strategic fit between ourselves and the Specialist Packaging Division. We were looking to make a more serious move into Poland in the very near future, as we view the Eastern European market as key to our development. The discussions we had with Clondalkin uncovered some excellent potential synergies and opportunity."
Harlands joins companies like Ditone Labels and Boxes Prestige in the Specialist Packaging Division, but will maintain a level of autonomy together with its strong brand. John Fitzgerald, ceo of the Division, explains: "The entire team at Harlands has done a fantastic job in steering the company to where it is today and the name is synonymous with quality, service and innovation within the industry. The Harlands brand will remain, and will become a cornerstone of our division's development.
"The decision to make this acquisition was heavily influenced by Harlands' reputation and their strategic plan to move into Poland. Development of the Harlands brand will now accelerate in Eastern Europe and the business will set up a facility alongside our already established Boxes Prestige factory. The coming year will see Harlands consolidate the position as one of the premier self adhesive label printers anywhere in the world."
