Ciba colour services to include 3D visualization

14 February 2006

Colour visualization of 3D objects is now available in the colour management services from Ciba Specialty Chemicals. A co-operation agreement with ColorViz for exclusive distribution rights worldwide of Mosaic and Indigo software makes Ciba the first speciality chemicals supplier to offer a very extensive range of colour management services from creation to realization.

Explains Sonia Megert Marshall, global head of colour services: "This software can be linked with Ciba Colibri colour formulation software, allowing users to view their materials immediately on the required objects, thereby reducing prototype design time from weeks to hours".

ColorViz Mosaic and Indigo visual appearance simulation software systems are said to reduce the time consuming and costly production of samples. Mosaic shows users in a matrix on screen the colour space that they can achieve with their own formulas, enabling specifiers to assess the technical feasibility of their colours. Indigo simulates in real-time the actual objects required. Pearlescent effects, interference pigments, metallic particles and special effect inks can be virtually mixed in a colour matrix or superimposed on a coloured substrate.

Flop effects, different illuminants and different viewing angles can all be taken into account. Transparency and translucency can be assessed visually. True colours can be viewed on screen using the Indigo calibration technology.
