Choice of three machines to suit

1 December 2008

Alpha Converting’s AlphaTwin twin-shafted slitter range now includes three distinct formats: HR, Standard and Lab. They are designed to handle different web widths and thicknesses, and to meet differing budget and capacity requirements.

Standard features include cantilevered winding shafts with swing-away supports for rapid roll change, closed loop unwind tension control and PLC touchscreen terminals that allow the operator to create, store and recall product recipes whilst the machine is running.

Optional accessories are said to improve machine efficiency dramatically. In particular, the patented automatic knife setting system enables the operator to set all the knives in under 80 sec; and a laser core positioning system automatically sets to the selected slitting pattern.

A major European labelstock manufacturer recently took delivery of its second machine, an HR which can wind 4,000 m long rolls up to one metre diameter at 600 m/min.

The range of thicknesses handled on all three AlphaTwin variants is 10-500 micron, and web widths from 300-2,000 mm. They are designed for parent roll widths of: Lab – 300-600 mm, rewind diameter up to 500 mm; Standard – 600-2,000 mm, rewind up to 800 mm; HR – 600-2,000 mm; rewind to 1,000 mm.

The Lab will handle a narrow (300-600 mm) parent roll width and slit it down to a minimum width of 12 mm. The HR will handle parent rolls of between 600-2,000 mm, slitting down to 50 mm. This machine differs from the standard model in that it will rewind 4,000 m rolls to a maximum diameter of 1,000 mm.
