Checking for problems

6 June 2008

At drupa 2008, Surfscan demonstrated the Checkrewinder 100 per cent inspection system, which is used at the final stages of the print process - detecting intricate and complex defects at a higher rate than the human eye.

The Checkrewinder is frequently used in combination with Surfscan’s Checkpress, claimed to deliver “100 per cent real-time inspection 100 per cent of the time”. It can be customised using advanced computer programming techniques and installed on any press – even very wide web models – and can pick up the tiniest defect in a crowded print area, the company states.

The Checkproof compares digital artwork with the first pulls of the finished print job to identify discrepancies. It can check for errors down to 0.1 mm in under 60 sec at 600 dpi.
