Carton plant to close

16 January 2006

Field Boxmore, Europe's leading supplier of printed healthcare packaging, is considering a proposal to close its carton operation at Bedford, UK. If implemented, the company's other sites at Nottingham and Leicester will support Bedford's current customer requirements.

Mark Wenham, managing director, Healthcare GB, explains: "This action is essential to create a sustainable business that can continue to attract ongoing investment and best serve the requirements of its customers. We are firmly committed to a thorough consultation process with our employees and their representatives."

The proposed closure would take place over the coming months and up to 87 redundancies are anticipated. However, the company expects this action may create opportunities at other Field Group factories and hopes some employees will consider these.
