Carton line makes 'millionaires'

9 July 2003

Six gluer operators at Mayr Melnhof Packaging's Deeside, UK, plant have been made 'Deeside Millionaires' after gluing a million cartons in one shift. The latest 'millionaire' is Team Coach, Brendan who hit the million in a record 7.5 hours - using the company's new Bobst Alpina folder-gluer.

"I'm delighted that so many of the team have become millionaires," says plant director Steve McGuinness "Especially as they only finished training on the machine at the end of February."

The high speed line includes the Bobst's first batch inverter in the UK. This takes a batch of 'print side up' blanks, inverts them and automatically feeds them into the Alpina. Used in conjunction with a Bobst CartonPack II automatic packer, the unit allows the line to run at 625m/min.
