Carton conference coverage

'Learning to be more Successful' is the title of this month's Carton Conference, at the Staverton Park Conference Centre, UK. The programme begins on Monday, February 27, with delegate visits to Benson Box and Jaguar Cars. These are followed by an Ipex Advance Visitor Presentation and Sponsor Reviews. In the evening, there will be a Gala Dinner with celebrity speaker Sir Henry Cooper, Britain's most famous heavyweight boxer.

On the 28th, supported by a table top exhibition, the first session is entitled 'Reality Check for the Carton Industry'. Topics are 'Emerging Market Development: the impact for packaging', by Pira's Andy Rushforth; 'Outlining the Global Packaging Market ', Tim Rothwell, Lansdowne Capital; and 'Current State of the UK Carton Industry' Jim Clancy, Packaging Focus.

Session 2, 'Challenges Facing the Industry', covers: 'Opportunities and Challenges from a Customer Perspective', Paul Clegg, Unilever; and 'Market Development in Central and Eastern Europe', Dr Paul Sudnik, Amcor PET. Topics and speakers in Session 3, 'Ways Forward for the Carton Industry' are: 'Adding Value through Technology', Tony Kenney, Print City; 'The Future of Cartonboard: Introduction to Sustainpack', Michael Sturges, Pira; and 'Better by Design', Nick Verebelyi, Design Bridge.

'Opportunities' is the subject of the final session. Michael Brunton, of Brunton Publications, discusses 'Thinking Outside the Box - total fulfilment', and Prism's Simon Southern concludes with 'The Interface between Cartons and Plastics'.
