Capacity increased, environmental impact cut

6 January 2011

A multi-million pound investment has provided UK flexible packaging printer FFP with a new Windmöller and Hölscher MIraflex 8-colour flexo press and a complete solvent distillation plant - allowing the Northampton-based company to offer flexibility and responsiveness to customers while reducing its solvent usage and environmental impact.

The impetus for the investment has come from increased market demand: FFP has been able to win substantial new business with a number of major food brands. The new press will allow it to continue to offer excellent print quality and flexibility to existing customers while at the same time giving the company room for further sales expansion.

Advanced features on the Miraflex press as specified by FFP include automatic wash-up, ink viscosity control, impression and register setting. A 42x201d video monitor allows the full width of the print web to be checked simultaneously.

The new solvent distillation equipment will enable 90% of the solvent used in the print process to be regenerated for re-use, building on the company’s recent achievement of the ISO 14001 environmental standard.
