Buoyant sales for film slitters

27 November 2008

Atlas says sales of its primary and secondary slitter rewinders for film have remained particularly buoyant throughout 2008, with “a significant number” of machines going to China, India and SE Asia, Eastern Europe and North America.

One such order was received from Vifan USA, for an 8 m wide CW984AP slitter for BOPP film, part of a US$72 mn project to expand production facilities at the plant in Morristown, Tennessee, to more than 77,000 tonnes/year. Atlas has supplied several primary film slitters to Vibac. The latest one will run at up to 1,500 m/min and will be the third Atlas machine to be installed at the Morristown plant, due to start up early in 2009.

Atlas is also to supply a secondary slitter for cast PP film to Grand Master, a company in Zhukov, Russia, that produces CPP and blown PE films for food and consumer packaging. The CW800 shaftless machine, to be installed early in 2009, will be used to process 3 m wide CPP film with a thickness range of 20-100 micron.
