Braskem boosting production for speciality films

19 November 2013

Braskem is to modernise and expand its Bahia facility In Brazil, to ensure the supply of metallocene-based resins to the country's plastics industry.

The company is investing approximately R$50 million to expand its annual production capacity of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) by 120,000 tonnes, the bulk of which will be the Flexus range of metallocene-based polyethylenes.

Braskem Flexus is used in packaging that requires specific features, such as increased resistance, gloss, transparency and sealing properties. It targets manufacturers of specialty films, technical reels and industrial films.

The new production line is expected to start operations in the first half of 2015.
