Bobst sales create a top performer in South America

23 September 2010

Atlas Converting Equipment, part of Bobst Group, has a confirmed order for slitting and rewinding equipment from Peruvian company, OPP Film. The commissioning of four machines at the company’s Lima facility in early 2011 will help to make the Oben Holding Group the largest producer of polypropylene film in South America at around100,000 tonnes/yr, it is claimed.

The order includes two 8.7m wide Atlas primary film slitters and a 3.5m wide Atlas CW800 secondary film slitter, to support two new BOPP film production lines. OPP Film also ordered a Titan ER610 compact cantilever slitter rewinder to expand its narrow width slitting capabilities.

OPP Film is a rapidly expanding company in the Oben Group. In recent years it has added further BOPP film lines, a cast CPP film line, extrusion coating plant and a General K5000 vacuum metalliser, also from Bobst Group.

The latest order gives OPP Film a total of three Atlas primary film slitters, its third Atlas CW800 secondary film slitter and a fifth Titan ER610 slitter rewinder. Such a line-up is catering for narrower width films for packaging applications, in which the business is now ‘deeply involved’, explains Bobst.

One of the Titan ER610 slitters at the new BOPP film plant located near Buenos Aires in Argentina began operations in 2008. A 2,850mm wide General K5000 vacuum metalliser was commissioned there last year, and a 3,550mm wide General K5000 metalliser will go into Lima early 2011.

With eight years’ experience of Atlas machinery, Jamil Zaidan Saba, President of OPP Film, believes it provides ‘one of the best slitting technologies for BOPP film’. “We are also very pleased with the service and customer support we have received from Bobst Group in South America,” he adds.

The group has distribution centres in Chile, Venezuela, Brazil and Central America, which supply Latin America, Europe, Africa and North America.
