Bobst GT packer has first world showing

19 April 2006

An automatic carton packer said to run at a speed of up to at 200,000cartons/hour was world premiered at IPEX. The new Bobst Cartonpack GT operates at over 33 per cent higher speeds than the previous model, claims the company.

In addition, the equipment, which packs folded and glued boxes into transit containers features a neat automatic carton sampling device based on the “flipper technology “ of the folder gluer, sited in the arc of the packer. An ink jet coder was featured in the exhibited machine marking each sample taken. The sampler can be programmed to take say one from each case or one in 1,000 cartons.

Placed at the outlet of high speed lines, the machine achieves its speed by a complete upgrading of the drives, simpler circulation and removal of transit containers, programmable management of the packing parameters and extra handling devices such as the conveyor system bringing the packaging outers into the machine. The equipment, which can be moved from line to line and adapted to all types of folder gluers, is designed to pack a broad range of box formats (straightline, four and six corner and CD envelopes), boasts Bobst.

Settings are simple and flexible. It can pack up to six rows and eight layers - with filling from left to right or right to left. Compression is minimal to avoid the risk of marking, says the company. Setting parameters are memorized in the Cube system and carton count is claimed to be highly precise.
