WalkiPack Bio X is a new polymer coated board with a biodegradable polymer coated surface launched by Walki Group. It is said to be fully biodegradable according to ASTM D6954-4, non toxic,totally food safe, recyclable, and with no heavy metal content
According to Walki, Bio X will not biodegrade during normal usage and, unusual for a biodegradable product, it performs in a comparable way to standard polymer - its barrier properties, heat sealing, print performance and glue ability all being equivalent.
When incinerated, there will be no harmful emissions or toxins, the company adds. Burning releases carbon dioxide and water vapour, and gives the equivalent calorific energy value as the same weight of fossil fuel.
