Big spend on sleeves

24 June 2002

Shrink sleeve manufacturer Decorative Sleeves has begun a multi million pound investment programme for its UK production facilities in King's Lynn and Wakefield.

Due to be completed by next spring, the programme involves significant capital investment in additional printing and converting equipment. It also includes a move to a purpose designed production facility which the company believes will make Wakefield the world's "most efficient, highest quality, producer of shrink sleeve labels". A high speed, 10 colour gravure press to handle material up to one metre wide will be installed at the new site.

King's Lynn will still encompass all three key processes. Short and medium run gravure work will be printed on existing presses. The site will also be the company's centre of excellence for flexo, with a new building housing the existing presses and a new UV flexo machine. An in-house plate making facility will be established and conversion facilities will be extended. The third business unit will manage the manufacture and supply of plain film products, including all preforms.
