A stripe coating technique developed by InteliCoat is said to be reliable and effective for laying down lacquer coatings in distinct lanes onto paper and polyester bases. This new method enables coating-free areas along the web in the machine direction, instead of a full width coating. The company says it is ideal for use with adhesive coatings, is also suitable for aqueous based solutions at varying viscosities, and is already in use for medical and printing applications.
Said to offer a high degree of versatility, the technique allows the frequency of the stripe coating to be tightly regulated and ensures the bands can be as wide or as narrow as required. Stripes have been generated down to 0.8mm width within a total web width of 1.5m. The efficiency of the coating process can be improved, as more narrow stripes can be processed simultaneously instead of using multiple machines of lower capability to produce the desired effect.
