Belt system boosts short run preprint

26 October 2004

SCI, Toronto, North America's largest independent preprint company, has installed a 10 colour Conprinta-IMD flexo system.

The fully automated, servo driven system uses belt technology that allows order changes 'on the fly', virtually eliminating set-up time, it is claimed. The printing plates are mounted onto the carrier belt off-line on a specially designed mounter proofer. Once a design has been mounted, it remains mounted and can be recalled to the press instantly, which gives the customer the confidence to order small quantities for just-in-time delivery so that printed roll stock can be minimized.

Plant manager Terry Ray says SCI has been very pleased with the capabilities of the Conprinta-IMD system. "It has already opened several new market opportunities, especially with the short run capabilities and repeat length up to 178in," he confirms.
