Belgian plastics remains optimistic

The Belgian plastics industry remains cautiously optimistic about 2010.? Despite the fact that converters saw total production fall by 13.4%, some ?markets, including consumer packaging and medical articles, resisted better,?according to Federplast.be.

In a survey, the association. which represents plastics and? rubber converters, found company executives held a cautiously ?optimistic view, with 44% expecting the same volume in 2010, while a similar? number foresee growth for their company, both in traditional markets and new? ones.??

The plastics industry is by far the single biggest sector in the trade ?balance of Belgium. While the exports of plastics materials and plastics ?articles fell by 20% in value, the export balance remained 'very impressive' ?at €7.8 billion, or more than half of the total export balance of? Belgium, states Federplast.
