BASF serves up new plates

2 December 2002

New from BASF, the nyloflex FE thin plate for flexo preprinting is said to be resistant to the ethyl acetate and spirits contained in two-component preprint inks for a white background. A monolayer plate, it will replace the multilayer ME grade, and is available in a thickness of 1.14mm and sizes 610 x 762mm and 762 x 1,016mm.

According to BASF, the FE will achieve an even, good area coverage, without register problems. It will print solids, text and lines, as well as half tone jobs, and can be processed in all systems on the market.

Also new is the nyloflex AFC, said to combine the benefits of the nyloflex ACE plate with Artwork Systems' FlexoCal film calibration technology. With FlexoCal, the tonal range can be extended into the highlight area, and gradation of the tonal values is finer. Consequently, applications for the AFC will be in flexible packaging, labels and corrugated preprint. It is said to ensure excellent ink transfer and a high print run stability.

The nyloflex AFC plate is available in thicknesses of 1.14 and 1.70mm, in the sizes 762 x 1,016, 920 x 1,200 and 1,067 x 1,525mm.
