Barrier treated wrapping paper from Mondi

13 September 2013

Advantage Barrier Wrap has been developed by Mondi Kraft Paper to create a moisture and water vapour barrier on the paper, a function usually achieved by waxing or PE coating. The new grade is said to be ready to use for printing and sheeting applications. It also offers "a high class visual appearance together with excellent deadfold, layflat and printing properties".

Advantage Barrier Wrap is suitable for various food wrap applications in direct contact with warm food products, such as hamburgers and sandwiches. Mondi says the material's grease resistance properties have been achieved naturally without any fluorine based chemicals.

The product also meets important criteria for sustainability and green manufacturing, being produced from renewable raw materials and repulpable, so that any waste can be circulated 100% back into production. Only bleached virgin kraft pulp from PEFC and FSC certified supplier is used for its production.

The fact that one converting stage can be removed, as additional waxing is no longer necessary, also has a positive impact on the carbon footprint.
