Automatic take-off conveyor aids inspection

12 December 2008

Following the sale of its first Vectra automatic take-off conveyor to a US customer, AB Graphic International chose Labelexpo Americas to launch the new development for its range of slitting rewinding and label inspection systems. The conveyor can be supplied on all new Vectra turret rewinders for widths from 330-510 mm.

The system, which has been purchased by Hamilton, Ohio, based Innovative Labeling Solutions to fully automate label converting from a 406 mm 9-colour flexo press, comprises a Vectra turret rewinder with fleyeVision in-line camera using 100 per cent print inspection.

The camera checks each individual lane of labels and identifies the location of any errors. When the finished product has completed its production cycle, the ‘good’ labels are automatically ejected down one chute of the conveyor whilst the roll containing the errors is sent down the reject chute.

ABG UK sales director Tony Bell comments: “Operating with this system means that a non-stop turret rewinding system can be used with guaranteed 100 per cent inspection of the product, which is not normally possible”.

Innovative Labeling president Jay Dollries adds: “We were looking for a system comprising inspection, turreting, packaging and tracing that would fully automate label production from our press. The new Vectra installation will significantly improve our efficiencies, as well as provide an additional quality control element to our process.”
