A new "world leader" in aluminium sheet, foil and packaging products has been formed from the rolled products division of Alcan, which filed in May, 2004, to spin-off the group, together with operations in Asia, and North and South America.
The new company - called Novelis - was officially formed this month, following votes of approval from Alcan shareholders and directors. The former Alcan plants in Berlin, Bridgnorth, Dudelange, Göttingen, Lüdenscheid, Ohle, Rogerstone and Rugles, along with operations in Asia, and America are now part of the new company, which will also be a partner in the Alunorf joint venture the world's largest aluminium rolling operation in Neuss.
Brian W Sturgell is Novelis' president and ceo, and Chris Bark-Jones is president of Novelis Europe. Said to be be the largest rolled products producer in the world, with pro forma revenues for 2003 of approximately US$6.2 billion, the company has 37 operating facilities in 12 countries and more than 13,500 employees.
