Web handling expert Dr J Keith Good will keynote the Applied Web Handling Conference on May 6-9, 2008, at the Radisson University Hotel in Minneapolis, USA, with a presentation entitled Winding Models: Using Science to Profit. The biennial event, sponsored by AIMCAL and its Converting Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA) division, will focus on practical techniques to optimise web handling, improve productivity, and minimise waste.
Dr Good is a professor and Noble Foundation Chair at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Oklahoma State University, home of the world’s only Web Handling Research Center. His research at the WHRC focuses on mechanics of winding webs and spreading devices, web wrinkling instability and web traction, with the goal of developing analytical and experimental techniques to study mechanics and dynamics phenomena. His presentation at AWEB will focus on modelling winder performance to prevent defects.
AWEB sessions will focus on winding, slitting, troubleshooting, drying, simulation, controls, registration, non-contact measurement, rollers and spreading. Participants also may register for a special, half-day course, Winding: Equipment, Mechanics & Roll Quality, on Thursday, May 8, as well as an optional half-day seminar on Friday, May 9, Using TopWeb 2.0 to Understand Your Web Handling and Winding Processes.
The conference will also include two tabletop receptions, on Tuesday, May 6, sponsored by Maxcess International, and on Wednesday, May 7, sponsored by CPP Expo.
