Amcor to supply peelable PLA

26 February 2007

Rockwell Solutions has granted the exclusive sales licence for its sustainable peelable PLA (polylactic acid) film for the global fresh produce market to Amcor Flexibles. This complements Amcor’s growing range of environmental films under the NaturePlus umbrella.

The PLA film, manufactured from cornstarch, is being used in Amcor’s P-Plus range of tailored permeability films for modified atmosphere packaging for fresh produce. The 40 micron material is said to exhibit excellent peel characteristics to PLA, aPET, rPET, PVC and HIPS trays in ambient to chill conditions, providing easy opening fo consumers. The film is claimed to peel away cleanly from the base tray without any sharding and can be used on existing lidding machines. It has also been formulated to include antimist to ensure clear visibility of the product inside, and is fully printable in either flexo or gravure.
