Amcor Flexibles has opened a new US $7 Mn, purpose-built, flex-pack converting facility at AF Sligo, Ireland.
The 25,000 ft2 facility features a new printing, pouch making and slitting equipment in a classified clean room facility. It embraces a number of environmental practices including solar panels, low energy lighting and rainwater harvesting.
“This investment and expansion of the Sligo operation reinforces Amcor’s commitment to the medical, pharmaceutical and personal-care markets and is in line with our global strategy to grow in our core market segments both locally and globally,” says Amcor Flexibles Healthcare president Peter Brues.
A total of 10 new jobs have so far been created at the plant and Brues predicted further opportunities at the new plant in future.
The new plant, opened by Irish Minister for Trade and Enterprise Mary Coughlan, is located 200 metres from Amcor’s existing plant at the site, which Amcor acquired in 2003. AF Sligo is a specialist converting site which has over the past 28 years been supplying medical technology and pharmaceutical companies with products such as short-run rollstock, MDM pouches and die-cut sheets.
