Alpha trims Kurz’s waste problem

3 November 2007

Leonhard Kurz (UK) has ordered two AlphaTrim TWM-P trim winders from Alpha Converting, to wind hot stamping foil trim waste from a recently installed primary slitter.

The new winders will replace traditional vacuum extraction systems. Kurz had been seeking an alternative to reduce the volume of waste trim for disposal, and ordered the AlphaTrims following trials at its Watford factory. The AlphaTrim was launched at this year’s ICE show in Munich.

Simon King, Alpha Converting’s managing director, comments: “The AlphaTrim is a simple, cost effective system to produce a compact package of edge trims by spooling them for recycling or disposal – with the added benefit of lower disposal costs. It can run at up to 600m/min and produce a spool of up to 400mm diameter by 450mm wide – more compact and much easier to handle than a bale or bag”.

The units supplied to Kurz are fitted with air inflated shafts to enable them to use different length scrap cores. They are also mounted on skids so that Kurz can move them with a hand operated pallet truck to any of its other slitting machines.

The AlphaTrim can be supplied ATEX rated, and can handle adhesive and non adhesive materials, including paper, film, rubber, aluminium, non wovens, laminates, filaments and textiles.
