Alox added to Uflex armoury

25 July 2011

The India-based Uflex Group has commissioned an Alox coater for packaging films at its plant in Egypt. A new 12,000 tonnes/year cast polypropylene (CPP) film line has also started up at the facility near Cairo, which already houses an 8.7m wide, 500m/min state-of-the art biaxially oriented PP film line (36,000 tonnes/year) and a plasma enhanced high-barrier metalliser.

Uflex is currently installing an 8.7m wide, 500m/min biaxially oriented polyester film line and another plasma enhanced metalliser that will be fully operational at the Egyptian site by the end of 2011. The company says this will further consolidate its position as the world’s largest producer of BOPET films for packaging applications.

The Alox coater applies a thin and highly transparent coating of aluminium oxide on packaging films to give them extremely high moisture and gas barrier properties said to rival those of aluminium foils and metallised films. It is claimed to be the only truly high-barrier flexible packaging material available that is transparent and allows the packaged product to be clearly visible.
