All that glitters

3 February 2004

Harlands has launched a label concept designed to give packaging that extra sparkle to help products stand out amongst competitors. Glitter ink can be applied to self adhesive labels by Harlands' flat screen presses.

The company uses polyester particles to achieve the glitter effect, which is claimed to give the same final look as metallic glitter but avoiding problems that could be caused by metal detection units in filling lines. The glitter ink range includes a variety of colours, as well as the traditional gold and silver and is said to be ideal for seasonal promotions or to add impact to an existing design.

Ian Wright, managing director at Harlands, comments: "It took some time to find a way to make the innovation safe to use in customers' environments but the use of polyester particles has achieved the desired result".
