AkzoNobel plans to strengthen its position in packaging coatings by exercising the right to buy the remaining shares of Italian-based packaging coatings producer Metlac for an undisclosed sum. AkzoNobel inherited its current position as a shareholder in Metlac when it acquired of ICI in 2008. Completion of the transaction, subject to antitrust approval, is expected in Q2 2012.
