NSD International – formerly Simpson Label Company – says that it has been able to reduce costs and turnaround times by adding an in-line UV flexo hybrid unit to its digital label print facility.
“This development, which had not been possible with the Xeikon press until now will introduce new and valuable cross functionality between digital and conventional printing,” says NSD boss David Hedley.
It allows the company to add UV flexo colour, for example, reproducing gold or silver as a spot colour from a digital press, or adding other metallics and special varnishes, including fluorescents, to the existing digital CYMK process.
The in-line facility can also apply optically brightened lacquers. It introduces a range of features only previously possible in two or three stages. For example, glitter particles can be added to lacquers, and NSD claims that precise registration between digital and flexo can be achieved. The system can also impart gloss and matt lacquers.
