AB Graphic and Magnetic Attractions

9 October 2006

Magnetic Attractions, of Durham, NC, USA, has purchased an Omega Digicon S digital printing and converting system with sheeting capability, from AB Graphic International. The US company manufactures promotional magnets for a wide range of industries and has now set its sights on the digital label market.

The Omega Digicon S line provides single pass printing and converting, as well as high quality label production. It includes servo driven web tension control, electronic web guidance with splicing table, hot air drying/UV curing and waste matrix stripping and sheeter, all controlled from a touchscreen. Four colour printing is obtained from an HP ws4000 digital print engine.

John Dowling, general manager, comments: “In the production of our promotional magnets we employ the latest in digital print technology and high quality flexo printing featuring CTP capabilities. Standard runs are from 500 to millions of pieces with four colour process printing and spot colours with laminating or UV varnishing. When we decided to expand expand into the label market and saw the high level of integration AB Graphic has accomplished with the HP digital printhead, our decision became obvious”.

He concludes: “We are in the process of starting up a digital label manufacturing division to produce and supply pressure sensitive digital labels to high end niche markets. Our new label division, Digitalabel, will be fully operational by the end of 2006. As the Digicon can also convert magnets, we get a two for one situation.”
