Labelexpo Europe success points up industry optimism

Last month’s Labelexpo Europe 2013 show was the largest in the long running event’s history, attracting 31,795 visitors (up 11% on 2011) from 158 countries (up from 123 in 2011) and just under 600 exhibitors (550 in 2011).

The 31,000m² floor size in the Brussels venue was also the largest in the show's 33-year history.

More than 150 new products were launched at the show, including Epson's Sure PrecisionCore technology and Surepress L-6304 UV ink label press, Mark Andy's Performance Series P3 and P5 narrow web flexo presses, Ritrama's Core Linerless Solutions system, and the DSI UV inkjet label printer from Stork Prints.

By the end of the show, 86% of the space had already been rebooked for the 2015 edition, according to the event organiser.

Lisa Milburn, managing director of Labelexpo Global Series remarks: "Confidence and optimism is beginning to return to the wider global industry, and converters are starting to invest in their businesses again. Seeing our manufacturers and suppliers making sales here confirms that Labelexpo Europe is the best-selling platform in the label and package printing industry, with printers prepared to spend high on capital equipment."

Converting Today's two Labelexpo previews have already highlighted many innovations at the show. Others included Canadian exhibitor ETI Converting Equipment's new Mini-Cohesio, a servo driven in-line coating system for label printers seeking compact, affordable equipment to manufacture their own PS material or labels after printing.

"The industry's most productive digital UV inkjet press with high opacity digital white" was FFEI's, billing for the debut of its Graphium system. "The most productive, high opacity digital white press on the market."

Goss International introduced its Sunday Vpak web offset press range, stating: "Anyone who is finding their run lengths and lead times continually reducing and feeling increasingly squeezed on price should come and talk to us about web offset alternatives".

ITL's new VZero LED 360mm air-cooled system made its world debut in Brussels. This compact, modular solution utilises all of the proven features and benefits of its sister arc product and incorporates them into an LED alternative with an advanced semiconductor technology and cooling design offering a high intensity and high dose output previously only possible with water-cooled models.

KPG has extended the web widths of the Euroflex press range to include a 520mm version. KPG is now able to supply presses configured with hot air drying and IR systems as well as UV curing.

Kodak, MPS and Reproflex 3 teamed up to demonstrate "how impactful offset-like quality can cost effectively and efficiently be achieved with narrow web UV flexo" - without the use of spot colour inks.

Newly formed global leader in speciality papers, Munksjö introduced Acti-V LEAF 50 g/m², a lightweight release paper with superior mechanical characteristics, for production of thinner and lighter PSA labelstock laminates. Munksjo also presented the Full Circle recycling programme that offers collection of paper liner waste at no cost, for recycling into speciality papers. ?www.labelexpo.com
