Big is beautiful

Interpack, Europe’s biggest packaging industry exhibition, returns to Düsseldorf, Germany, from 12-18 May. We look at some of the exhibits for converters at the show.

Interpack provides a truly global forum for the packaging industry, and will welcome visitors from around the world to discover the latest developments in materials, machinery and much more.

The Atlantic Zeiser Group, a leading provider of technology, module and system solutions for industrial DoD digital printing, will showcase the new Omega 20/25 printing module and a new air-cooled LED curing technology (Hall 13, Stand C12). The printer and curing system package can be used for horizontal and vertical printing, and has been designed for the special requirements of the pharmaceutical industry. It features a compact design, and offers powerful inline integration components for marking, coding and serialising in late-stage customisation, as well as product track & trace and anti-counterfeiting.

The spot colour DoD inkjet printer, Omega 20/25, can cover printing widths between 20mm and 25mm, the maximum required for adding markings and variable product and production information to pharmaceutical packaging. Such information includes contents, expiry dates, warning notices, usage and consumption notes, as well as volume information in text and in different languages.

Inks and pigments supplier Sun Chemical will be at the show to showcase its capabilities (Hall 7a, Stand D32). Together with Sun Branding Solutions, its Packaging Brand Lifecycle Management Agency, and its parent company DIC Corp, Sun Chemical will give visitors first hand insight into its packaging print solutions that will allow brands to stand out in terms of sensory appeal and functional performance, as well as compliance.

Sun Chemical will demonstrate its ability to support all parts of the packaging development workflow from pack design concept through to press, conversion and brand launch.

Visitors to the stand can also expect to hear more about the company’s innovative special effects portfolio, as well as its latest range of lamination adhesives and low migration ink and coating solutions for the food packaging industry. The official release of the company’s updated Best Practice Guide to Food Packaging Printing will take place on the stand. In addition, Sun Branding Solutions will be demonstrating its design-to-launch packaging development services, which include graphical brand adaptation and implementation, packaging technology and specification management, as well as product lifecycle management software.

The newly expanded Taghleef Industries Group (Hall 9, Stand D24/E23) is geared up to show what gives it the edge as a BOPP supplier. In particular, it will draw attention to Nativia, which serves customers interested in bio-packaging.

Preco-Europe and Preco USA (Hall 12, Stand A36) will unveil an innovative, high speed laser system designed for flexible packaging applications. The directed beam technology creates contour scoring, cross-web scoring and perforating at web speeds up to 457m/min, depending on print repeat distance and film type. It is said to give a consistent score depth throughout the run, from beginning to the end of a roll.

Belgian plastics additives producer Milliken (Hall 10, Stand C32) will be at Interpack to demonstrate how its Millad clarifying agents and Hyperform HPN nucleating agents can make major contributions to converters' process economics while ensuring improved product performance. Thanks to ‘ground-breaking’ developments in recent months, these additives are increasingly popular in a wide range of technologies used to process various types of polypropylene and polyethylene. Milliken's stand will highlight their advantages in several specific areas: thin-wall injection moulding, production of caps and closures, blow moulding of bottles and containers, thermoforming, and film extrusion.
