Alpha print medien (apm), a Darmstadt based company, recently placed an order for a web monitoring system by E+L. The contract was signed by the chairman of apm, Klaus Kürras, during drupa in Düsseldorf. The system supplied by Erhardt+Leimer is to be integrated into a commercial press of the type Lithoman by manroland.
Collaboration of Erhardt+Leimer and manroland has a long tradition. For many years manroland has provided his printing presses with web control and web tension measurement systems by Erhardt+Leimer. They guarantee precise and reliable control of the entire printing process.
In the field of web monitoring systems the Leitershofen based specialists introduced their own video system to the market in 2009. Since then manroland, printing press manufacturer with its head office in Augsburg, has been relying on Erhardt+Leimer.
With the newly acquired system apm aim at detecting machine disorders caused by problems in the printing process at an early stage. To this end the paper web is monitored at several points, which allows the operator to detect, for example, material defects in the paper web in good time and to react appropriately. If, in case of a web break, the machine is stopped, the images are automatically stored, logged, and recorded. Hence, any claims for compensation as against suppliers might be clearly substantiated.
Web monitoring has practically become imperative today for printing plants like apm. Magazines, catalogues, brochures, and much more are printed on various kinds of papers for a great number of customers every day. According to apm Chairman Klaus Kürras web monitoring systems are an “integral part of process optimisation”, an opinion that is shared by many.
The currently high demand for web monitoring systems will continue to rise, as quality control and process optimisation are becoming increasingly important in the printing industry. Despite strong competition Erhardt+Leimer are convinced that their market share will be growing considerably during the next few years. “Customers catch up on the individual suppliers’ system features now. We can, however, rely on our longstanding experience in the field of automation and inspection, on easy integration and handling of our systems, and on our notable reliability”, summarizes Andreas Enzler, Deputy Sales Manager Paper/Foil at E+L, the advantages provided by the Leitershofen based specialists. The fact that these advantages are highly appreciated by the customers is underlined by the latest order from apm.
